Construction and Materials

Chains are available in a wide variety of types, sizes, and designs for conveyor and elevator service.

  1. Sidebars are made of medium carbon steel, heat-treated when required to balance the design.  The pitch holes are accurately punched to insure an optimum press fit with pins and bushing, and for close control of chain pitch.
  2. Pins are made of heat-treated medium carbon or alloy steels to provide the required strength and wear resistance.  For additional resistance to wear and abrasion, induction hardened pins can be furnished upon request at an additional charge if not standard.
  3. Bushings are furnished in case hardened steel to provide maximum wear resistance and chain-life.  On some chains the bushings have either flats or notches at the ends to prevent rotation in the sidebar.  A heavy interference fit provides positive locking for style 3 or 4 bushings
  4. These chains are furnished with rollers of various designs and materials for various applications and requirements.  Style A rollers are furnished in either medium carbon heat-treated or low carbon case hardened steel.  Style B & E rollers are furnished in either low carbon case hardened steel or Webloy.  Style D & G rollers are furnished in Webloy and provide a grease reservoir and lubrication fittings for applications where internal greasing is required.  On some chains a lubrication fitting and lubricant passages can be furnished in the pin.  In addition, special sizes or designs of rollers can be furnished to meet customer requirements.

Assembly

Riveted construction is recommended for woodyards and sawmills.  Cottered construction is recommended for elevators and conveyors.  Riveted or cottered construction must be specified.

Application

Best suited for slow or moderate speed conveyor and elevator applications.  Maximum chain speed depends on the size of sprockets.  For conveyor service see TABLE 2 (Click Here).
